[(X,Y) NATURAL VARIABLES ] INSTALLATION

[(X,Y) NATURAL VARIABLES ] IS AN ARTISTIC INSTALLATION DESIGNED TO CELEBRATE THE BEAUTY OF WILD, SPONTANEOUS NATURE WITHIN URBAN SPACES. WHILE WE OFTEN STRIVE TO INTEGRATE GREEN AREAS INTO CITIES, THERE IS A SUBTLE IRONY IN HOW WE REMOVE NATURE WHEN IT EMERGES UNEXPECTEDLY. THIS PROJECT CHALLENGES THAT CONTRADICTION BY RECOGNIZING AND VALUING EXISTING WILD AREAS INSTEAD OF CREATING ARTIFICIAL GREEN SPACES. THE GROWTH OF WILD PLANTS DEPENDS ON UNPREDICTABLE NATURAL VARIABLES, SUCH AS FERTILE SOIL AND RAINWATER AND THIS UNPREDICTABILITY IS MIRRORED IN THE CHOICE OF MATERIALS. THE CHOSEN MATERIAL, POLISHED STEEL, IS INTENTIONALLY LEFT WITHOUT A PROTECTIVE COATING, MAKING IT SUSCEPTIBLE TO EXTERNAL INFLUENCES LIKE OXYGEN AND RAINWATER. OVER TIME, THIS WILL CAUSE THE STEEL TO RUST, SYMBOLIZING THE NATURAL EVOLUTION OF THE PLANTS THEMSELVES.
